Kiwiball/T-Ball (8 & Under) Baseball

T-Ball 8U baseball is a fun program that includes both skill development and play along with structured games. The games remove all the complexity of full baseball, and are designed so that every player bats, fields and even gets to cross home plate and score. Parents and coaches are allowed on the field in games and some of the videos of the little ones playing are hilarious memories!

Bayside runs tee-ball on Saturday mornings while the other diamonds are buzzing with older leagues so kids get a real sense of the game.

Season Details: Registrations open in August,  the season commences in October in line with the other age groups. The baseball season in Auckland is longer for other age groups, so for T-Ball we have the official season run from October to December (8-10 weeks), and then evaluate a potential summer season Jan-Mar including fun scrimmages against other clubs depending on availabilities and parent demand.

Age: T-Ball is designed for kids aged 4-7 according to the little league age chart below. Any 8 year olds will be better suited to 10U, even if they have never played baseball before.

For the 2024/25 season players please see AGE CHART

What you need: In the T-Ball age group, we design things to remove the need for too much equipment or gear.

Your registration includes a cap, and the club has gloves, bats, helmets, balls etc.

Training: Training is optional and depending on numbers. Some T-Ball teams choose to run a short training session once a week that allows for more game time on a Saturday but again this is not for the purposes of competing but rather having fun, learning and leaving more time on the weekend for games. Others turn the Saturday session into a training session/game combo.

Games: Games are normally held at Crossfield Reserve, Glendowie on Saturday mornings between 8:30am and 9:30am.

- All players are in the field on defence (no subs or standing around).

- Players hit off a tee and there are no strikes or outs, and everyone gets to hit every inning.

- There are no outs on the base paths, which means everyone gets to score.

- The last batter in the lineup gets designated as the special "home run hitter" who gets to run straight through all the bases after hitting.

- Games are time-capped at 3 innings/45mins.

- At coaches discretion, towards the end of the season coach-pitches can be introduced.

Cost: $70 for the season including your cap . Fees cover equipment, field maintenance, ABA & BNZ Affiliation fees.

Safety: Many of the rules of T-ball are focused on player safety.  Equipment such as helmets, softer balls and lessons around elements such as bat safety are provided by the club.

Want to help out?  This grade requires parent participation and is particularly good for parents getting to know the game. Get involved and support your child's team as a team manager, game-day coach or assistant coach. You will be supported by plenty of experienced Bayside committee members. Just comment in your registration or let us know.
